Southernmost outpost

Relaxation is an art I have not perfected.

When I don’t have a focus, I squirm. I fidget. I find a task and keep moving. I push forward instead of kicking back.

But Key West has changed me, at least for the moment.

My first morning here, I retreated to the front porch and sat in a rocking chair. Within seconds, the calico cat that mans the grounds hopped into my lap, as if she’d done it a thousand times before.

The wind massaged the trees. The kitty kneaded my chest. My blood pressure dropped.

And I began to relax.

In Key West, it’s impossible not to.
