SAN FRANCISCO — A new city brings new possibilities.
So 20 minutes before sunrise, fresh cup of joe in hand, I took to the streets.
Despair greeted me on the sidewalk, where a row of homeless slept beneath blankets, dreaming of better times.
But once I reached the wharf, the world opened up.
Breezes floated in from the sea. Alcatraz sat in the distance, blurred by a veil of fog. Behind me, homes looked down from the hills.
A hotel clerk last night mapped out a sample itinerary full of parks and museums and spectacular scenery. He also told us a must meal is the Dungeness crab, which is in season.
I can’t wait to taste it, along with everything else San Francisco has to offer.
